How to Choose a Contractor for a New Home Construction
If you're planning on building a new home, the general contractor that you choose to work with on the project will play an integral role in your life throughout the entire process. You'll be trusting them with a huge task, so selecting the right professional is extremely important, and if you're able to find a contractor that you can thoroughly trust, the building process will be much less stressful.
At Renaissance Renovations, our Brighton remodeling contractors can provide excellent new home construction services, and we look forward to working with you on the project. We've also compiled a few tips to help you select the contractor that will be best for your particular project:
The first and best way to find a contractor is to ask co-workers, friends, and family if they know anyone who has recently built a new home in the Brighton area. If they can provide references and recommendations, that can be an excellent resource. You can likely also find a number of great new home construction contractors online, and they should have reviews and referrals readily available, but word of mouth is the best way to find a contractor.
After you've selected a group of core prospective contractors, schedule interviews. The initial meeting should give you a solid idea of whether you'll be bale to work with this contractor for six months to a year during the construction process. A good contractor should be able to answer all of your questions and put you at ease. You should ask:
- How long he/she has been in business.
- How long they have been working in the Brighton area.
- How many houses they build each year.
Find out as much as you can about the contractor and determine a tentative timeline and schedule.
Checking any references is essential, but most contractors will only give you the names of the customers who they know are going to give them positive recommendations. Asking for the name of the owner of the last home that the contractor built and well as at least two names of customers who had houses built in the last two to five years can give you a better idea of how satisfied each of their clients have been. The new homeowners should be able to tell you about the Brighton area contractor's work ethic, skills, and customer services.
Choose A Licensed Professional
New home construction is one of the biggest and most important projects you can hire anyone for, so before you choose your Brighton new home construction contractor, make sure that they're licensed and insured. They should provide you with proof of each of these things. This will minimize your risks going into the project and help guarantee that you receive excellent work.
